Nine young writers of poetry, prose and essays, Literary Contest finalists were awarded today at the Moldcell office. This contest is a part of the National Project of Public Readings organized in partnership with the Writers’ Union of Moldova and the Ministry of Education. The first year results were summed up at this event and the continuation of the project was announced.
During 2011, 60 writers had been traveling all over the country to meet students from schools in rural areas and in the capital. 45 meetings were held in 15 districts of the country, including in villages where prominent Moldovan writers were born. In summer time authors visited the largest camps to communicate with young readers. As a result of the project, many talented people from various localities were identified, children who love literature and have the courage to explore creativity, inspiration and emotion. Arcadie Suceveanu, President of the Writers’ Union of Moldova:
"We want to thank our trusted partner, Moldcell Company, for its significant contribution to the revival of the contact between the writers and readers, which was interrupted for 20 years. We are very happy that while traveling around the country, we managed to discover some young and talented people, with real potential of growth. One of the finalists, Diana Frumosu, impressed us with her creative maturity, already having a manuscript with poetry. Writers’ Union, together with Moldcell, assumes the responsibility to print a debut volume of Diana, which will appear later this year."
Due to the success achieved, to the multiple requests from the schools and positive reactions in mass media, the National Project of Public Readings will continue its activity in 2012, in an enhanced format.
Rodica Verbeniuc, Moldcell Corporate Communication section Head:
"Moldcell aims to develop strong and long term partnerships, bringing tangible benefits to young people in our country. Last year we managed to get to know each other better, we understood that, especially in the villages, children are eager to learn, to communicate with personalities and to explore creative skills. It was confirmed that there is a need to continue the project in 2012, so we did not hesitate to reach a common agreement and to launch the second phase of collaboration. Moldcell motivates young people and promotes alternative methods of education. In addition, by supporting major cultural events and projects, we want to hurry the "thaw" of the arts and to include our country in an international circuit of artistic communication."
Besides meetings with readers and book donations to the schools involved, the new format of the National Project of Public Readings includes closer communication with the most promising young authors, who will participate in regional and republican literary workshops where they will read their texts in front of critics, writers and generation peers. All the comments and feedback will help them to overcome the fear of public, to identify their mistakes, learn new writing techniques and finally come up with works worth to be published in literary magazines, books and even to be awarded at national and international contests.
Also, young writers will be invited to take part in meeting with school students to create an image of modern literary perspective and show children that there are different ways to express themselves in writing and no need to strictly follow classical style.
Loretta Handrabura, Deputy Minister of Education:
"After the first year of collaboration within the project, we received many enthusiastic feedbacks from territory, from the schools that get fewer new books and where writers do not reach. The decision to extend the project deserves only the warmest appreciation. Our Ministry supports students’ involvement in extra-curricular activities, which open horizons and create perspectives for their development. We will continue to provide all necessary support and we are sure that schools involved will highly appreciate this opportunity".
The finalists of Literary Contest’s first edition received participation certificates, books, cash prizes from the Writers’ Union and modern mobile phones from Moldcell.
